The term hemorrhoids, refers to a condition in which the veins around the anus or lower rectum are swollen and inflamed. There are two types of hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids are either inside the anus (internal) or under the skin around the anus (external). Internal hemorrhoids usually don't hurt or itch because they are deep inside the rectum. Internal hemorrhoids are quite harmless, but since their bleeding could mask blood from a dangerous source like colorectal cancer, they should be treated. External hemorrhoids cause most of the symptoms you will commonly hear about, pain, burning and itching.
